October 23rd, 2009 – Mentors, coaches and exceptional athletes were celebrated in a moving ceremony Thursday night at the annual IN HER FOOTSTEPS…. CELEBRATING BC WOMEN IN SPORT, a recognition program and exhibit celebrating exceptional BC women in sport, housed at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

CAAWS, CCES and AthletesCAN support South African runner
Three of Canada's leading sport organizations have joined together to express support for South African 800 meter runner Caster Semenya. CAAWS, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), and AthletesCAN are all concerned about the way this complex issue has been presented in the global media, as well as the lack of concern and breach of confidential information for the athlete who won the women's 800 meter race at the recent International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships.
“It's almost hard to imagine that in 2009, people immediately began questioning Caster Semenya's athletic performance because of the way she looks”, said CAAWS Executive Director Karin Lofstrom.

TELUS partnership a slam-dunk with B.C. girls and boys high school basketball associations

Sponsorship funds annual girls and boys provincial basketball tournaments and scholarships

Vancouver, B.C. – TELUS announced today it is pleased to expand its on-going sponsorship of the B.C. High School Boys Basketball Association AAA Provincial Championship tournament to also include the B.C. Senior Secondary Girls Basketball Association and $20,000 in scholarships to assist basketball athletes throughout B.C.

New Funding for Potential Female Coaches
The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) announces a new funding source for female student-athletes who are currently in their last year of their CCAA playing careers who wish to engage in coaching professional development opportunity; grants of up to $250 are available during their final year of play.
