Objectives and Background
After the success of the program in 2008, the BC Games Society, Coaches Association of BC and ProMOTION Plus will once again offer a Coaching Mentor /Apprenticeship Program for female apprentices in conjunction with the 2010 BC Winter and BC Summer Games. The Coaching Mentor/Apprenticeship program will pair experienced coaches (minimum NCCP Level two certified) with female apprentices who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching and/or in developing their training to a higher level.

The goals are:
• To increase the number of qualified female coaches starting at the club and provincial level and moving toward the national and international level in the future.
• To create more opportunities for women to have access to coaching experiences.
• To support female coaches in their pursuit of greater coaching skills, and/or attaining a higher level of certification.

Program Description
The Coaching Mentor/Apprenticeship program will target female coaches in the province of BC who are interested in developing their coaching skills leading up to the 2010 BC Winter and BC Summer Games. The program is structured to benefit each selected apprentice coach and her mentor.

A maximum of ten apprentice-mentor matches will be selected to attend each of the 2010 BC Winter and BC Summer Games. (See BC Games Society website www.bcgames.org for a list of the sports included in the 2010 BC Winter and BC Summer Games).

Background on the Program:
In 2006, in partnership with BC Games Society and it’s 2006 Summer Games partners in Kamloops, ProMOTION Plus and Coaches Association of BC gave an introduction to the proposed “Coaching Mentor/ Apprenticeship Program For Female Apprentices”. The goal at that time was to promote the program and get feedback from the Kamloops coaches and participants to aid in the development of the program.

The Coaching Mentor/ Apprenticeship program officially started in 2007 when the first  mentor/apprentice pairs began working together in preparation for the BC Winter & Summer Games in 2008.
