Vancouver Island Speakers and Presenters

The following speakers are members of the Vancouver Island Chapter of ProMOTION Plus, the BC Organization for Girls and Women in Physical Activity and Sport. A summary of the topics and presenters available to speak to your school, university, organization or community group are listed below. Many presentations can be customized to suit particular needs and we encourage you to call us with any specific requests.

Irene Wallace is a university student-teacher supervisor, former college basketball coach and secondary school PE teacher. She participated in softball for thirteen years, resulting in two Canadian Championship titles and representing Canada at the 1979 Pan American Games. Irene is a NCCP Level 4/5 Basketball Coach and has provided leadership to many high school, college and university basketball teams. Irene is a past Board Member for the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity, a founding Member of the Saskatchewan 52% Solution, and has a Masters of Education in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria.

Alison Ducharme is a Project Management Consultant who has worked with many corporations and not-for-profit organizations to offer support in their strategic planning, performance & program evaluation, and communications implementation. Coming from a competitive sport background, Alison understands the importance of goal setting, teamwork, and self esteem, and enjoys the opportunity of sharing these concepts with other girls and women. As a volunteer in the community, Alison serves as the Director of Protocol for Victoria 2000 BC Summer Games, Past Chair of Victoria Women of Distinction Awards Event, and Past Chair of Victoria Women’s Transition House.

Patti Hunter, the principal of The Benchmark Group Organizational Developmental Consulting, has provided assistance and support to many sport, recreation and health organizations across Canada. As the Project Manager of the YWCA of Canada and Health Canada Partnership, Patti developed resources such as Healthy Lifestyles for Low Income Women, Pathway to Gender Equity, and Equity & Access for Girls in Physical Activity. In her policy development work, Patti has designed the YWCA Equality Promotion Checklist, curriculum and manuals for Human Resource Management courses, and assisted with the More Than An Open Door resource. As a volunteer Patti is the Chair of “Healthy Women in Healthy Communities” Research Team for the BC Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health, Board Member of Community Social Planning Council, Vice-Chair of Victoria Women of Distinction Awards Event, Past President of BCRPA, and Deputy Director of Protocol for Victoria 2000 BC Summer Games.
