Designed by CAAWS (the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity) and presented in BC by ProMOTION Plus, this workshop series blends theory with practical applications and provides an opportunity for women working, studying or volunteering in the sport community to share experiences, reflect on ideas and apply specific techniques. Group interaction and personal reflection are built into each module, providing for excellent networking opportunities among participants. The program is accessible to women throughout the sport and physical activity world, including athletes, administrators, coaches, staff, officials, students and volunteers.

Workshop Descriptions

Unleash Your Leadership Potential - A Workshop for Young Women – NEW!
This workshop is specifically designed for young women aged 15 – 20 to help them identify, develop and practice their leadership skills in a supportive environment.  The workshop focuses on discussion of prominent female leaders, communication styles and developing your personal leadership plan.

Creating Work/Life Balance

Recent research in Canada documents how pervasive the “time crunch” has become for women. With changes such as downsizing and restructuring, and with the increased use of technology in the workplace, women are expected to do more work, more often. Creating work/life balance is about personal health, productivity, quality of life, etc. but at its core it is about two key everyday concepts: daily achievement and enjoyment. In this workshop we will identify the beliefs, myths and misconceptions that can interfere with creating work/life balance in our lives. We will strategize about how to organize our time, prioritize our tasks and make space to experience joy and pleasure everyday.

Effective Networking
When you hear the word networking, what do you think of? Much like public speaking, it is ranked as one of many people’s top fears. Networking is an important and very learnable skill, but it requires both time and planning. In this workshop we will demystify networking, learn new skills for creating and enhancing our personal and professional networks and practice these skills in sports-related scenarios.

Conflict Resolution
Identify & discuss sources of conflict, successful problem solving and best practices. Outline a plan to strengthen your weakest conflict management style.

Effective Communications
Identify communication habits that undermine one’s credibility, examine gender-based patterns in communication and the influence of socialization on linguistic style. Identify and practice effective introductions and assertive communication styles in sport-related scenarios.

Influencing Change
What barriers to participation do women in you organization face? What can be done about it? We will identify & discuss how to be a successful advocate, factors that influence decision makers and meaningful strategies for creating change.
