2009 CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: SHERRI THOMSON
Sherri was drawn to the grace and power of horses early in her life. Over the course of her extensive career as an athlete, coach and trainer, Sherri has become a magnet for young female riders and loves to share her knowledge and passion for the sport of Reining with these young competitors. Sherri’s phenomenal work ethic makes her an amazing role model who has had a profound impact on the lives of her young protégés. This is evidenced by the love and dedication of her students to Reining, and by the fact that they spend most of their free time working with Sherri and the horses.

2009 DEVELOPMENT AWARD: AMBER ZIRNHELT
Amber has been running Girl Power programs for adolescent females since 2002. She has delivered Girl Power workshops in Vancouver and Williams Lake, BC as well as in Edinburgh, Scotland where she studied community planning and recreational management in 2005. The development award will support Amber’s goal to create a culturally relevant model of her program for aboriginal women in BC. Once the pilot program is complete, Amber will work with and train young women from the Tseshaht First Nation as Girl Power facilitators. With Amber’s support, these women will then be able to deliver the program in their own community.
The Bobbie Steen Awards of Excellence are presented annually by the following partners: BC Games Society, BC Sport and Recreation Branch, Sport BC and ProMOTION Plus. The Bobbie Steen Awards of Excellence were created to recognize outstanding individuals or organizations who demonstrate exemplary leadership in sport and recreation, promoting access and opportunity for girls and women in the province of British Columbia. The next nomination deadline will be February 2010.

Allison’s accomplishments include: Head Coach 2002 – Canadian National Women’s Basketball Team, Associate Head Coach 2001 – 2005 University of Oregon, Head Coach 1988 – 2001 SFU, Head Coach 1998 – 2000 Canadian Junior National Women’s Team and Assistant Head Coach 2000 Olympics Canadian National Women’s Team. Allison brings her talents to BC running basketball clinics for coaches and players in Quesnel, Prince George, Kelowna, Castlegar, Kamloops, New Aiyansh and Victoria, to mention a few. A phenomenal role model, Allison McNeill has the unique ability to combine her inexhaustible enthusiasm for basketball, her technical expertise and her understanding of youth to inspire players and coaches at all levels of competition.

2006 Recipient for Career Achievement: Gail Donohue
Gail has contributed immensely to sport during her successful career as a coach and administrator and has inspired many athletes to pursue excellence in Synchronized Swimming. One of her greatest contributions has been coaching development. As Director of the Pacific Sport National Coaching Institute Gail facilitated the development of many coaches to level 4/5 certification. Gail continues to lend her expertise to Syncro Canada as a member of its Long Term Athlete Development Steering Committee and as a member of the Coaches of Canada board of Directors.
Norma Foster has studied Karate for over thirty years and holds the exceptional rank of 6th degree black belt. She is the only female member of the Referee Council of the World Karate Federation for which she also chairs the Gender Equity Committee. Norma has developed a Karate Officiating seminar for women and girls in Northern BC with the ultimate objective of increasing the number of female Karate officials province-wide.
Donna Blackstock - P.E. teacher and role model
Donna Blackstock is an outstanding physical education teacher and role model promoting health, fitness, enjoyment of physical activity and fair play. Donna has implemented innovative learning experiences in order to meet the needs of her students and to encourage girls to participate in physical activity - most notably the "Breakfast Club", "Team Player" and the "Women's Only" P.E. 11 course.

2003 Bobbie Steen Award of Excellence Recipient
“Jacqueline is known for bringing energy to the UBC soccer environment, and is a role model for newcomers to the team,” explains UBC soccer coach Richard Mosher who has coached Jacqueline for three years. He adds “it is Jacqui’s willingness to get involved in programs outside her main interest of soccer, that sets her apart from other young leaders.” Jacqui has coordinated workshops and student volunteers for handicapped and underprivileged inner-city residents, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in setting up and participating in the ‘T-Birds in Schools,’ and ‘Bridge Thru Sport’ programs. Her work with the First United Church Mission has touched many lives.
