Our Vision
All girls and women in the province of British Columbia will participate in and have access to a complete range of opportunities, choices, and resources for positive experiences in physical activity and competitive and recreational sport and have equity as participants and leaders.
Our Mission
ProMOTION Plus is a non-profit, volunteer organization who through strategic initiatives has a mission to:
- Create an environment of equity, access, and opportunity in physical activity and sport for all girls and women.
- Promote opportunities for active participation in physical activity and sport by all girls and women.
Our Values
We believe:
- Girls and women are entitled to an equitable share of resources and opportunities in physical activity and sport.
- Physical activity and sport play important roles in the development of self-esteem in girls and women.
- That physical activity and sport play important roles in the promotion of health and well-being, the prevention of disease, the rehabilitation from disease, and the management of risk factors.
- In the recognition and implementation of diversity at all levels of our organization, involving the inclusion of girls and women of all sizes and shapes, abilities, ages, races, cultures and ethnicities, sexual orientations, classes and incomes, geographic locations and experiences and interests.
- Gender differences in the psychological, social, cultural and physical development of girls and women must be understood and valued, and must form the basis for activities and leadership that are female-centered.
Guiding Practices
As an organization, we are guided by the following practices:
- Hearing and valuing all voices, including divergent opinions and experiences.
- Recognizing and valuing our diversity of experiences as strengths.
- Fostering an environment of caring, inclusiveness, safety, respect, and fairness.
- Teaching and promoting leadership skills, role modeling and mentoring.
- Understanding and addressing inequities in the recreation and sport systems.
- Collaborating with each other and with organizations and groups.
As an organization we:
- Recruit an all women board, thereby providing leadership opportunities for women in physical activity and sport.
- Involve men who are willing to uphold the vision and values of ProMOTION Plus as members and volunteers who believe in working towards and creating equal and equitable opportunities for girls and women.
