What is ProMOTION Plus?
ProMOTION Plus is the British Columbia organization for girls and women in physical activity and sport. It was established as a non-profit society in 1990 and was unique in Canada at the time. ProMOTION Plus is still only one of three provincial organizations in Canada dedicated to increasing opportunities for girls and women in the sport and recreation delivery system.
As part of the sport and recreation system, ProMOTION Plus has been housed in the Sport BC building since its inception and has always worked closely with Sport BC and other provincial sport and recreation organizations. Founding members include: Bobbie Steen, Marion Lay, Bryna Kopelow, Patti Hunter, Paula Pick and Janna Taylor.
The main sources of funding for ProMOTION Plus are: The BC Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts, 2010 Legacies Now, the BC Gaming Commission and the Government of Canada.
We also supplement our funding with support from our membership. An annual membership of $35.00 for adults, $75 for organizations, and $20.00 for students enables ProMOTION Plus to continue working in the creation, implementation and promotion of viable opportunities for girls and women in sport and physical activity in the province. In addition, ProMOTION Plus has in the past received funds from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development Summer Career Placement program and the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada.
